The Lord certainly has a way of working:
“His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet” (Nahum 1:3).
Yes, the Lord has a way of working things out. Our job is to trust him, watch him work and rejoice in his goodness.
The Lord’s way is often not our way, or least, not at the speed we want. The debris accumulates on the earth, but the rain comes and slowly, over time, cleanses the earth and washes away the waste.
The Lord works well over time. He has provided a habitat for humankind, time went into the making of it, until “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good” (Gen 1:31).
The Lord works well in our lives too, if we look back at the way he has led us, through trials and joys, highs and lows, the Lord uses them all to help us grow. Yet while it is happening we hardly perceive it.
“For forty years you sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen” (Neh 9:21). It seems that only when the children of Israel looked back over their time in the wilderness did they realise that no one’s clothes wore out. Egyptian cotton is good, but not that good! This was the “way of the Lord”.
The Lord has a way of sustaining us, day by day, year by year, his hand is upon us. He has a way of working things out, therefore we should trust and not worry. “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Pet 5:7).
The Lord has a way of healing us, perhaps we would prefer the healing to take place quickly, and we praise God that does sometimes happen, and it happens to point us to him who is the healer: As we look around we see that he has factored “healing” into the life we live. Not quick healing but healing all the same. Steady progress towards being sound of body, soul and spirit. We look to the Lord, for he is able, and praise God, he has a way of working. So let’s work with him, and prayerfully see how the Lord wants to help us grow.
And if we ask for healing but, for some reason it’s not forthcoming, then we can be sure that the Lord has a good reason: “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’” (2 Cor 12:8–9).
His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, how many great endeavours of men have been brought to a standstill because of the weather? He puts a hold on man’s pride. “The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect” (Ps 33:10). Yes, the Lord has a way, and we should take note, and make sure that we know him who is the “way”.
We dismiss God’s way of working at our own peril. So we place our trust and faith in him, knowing that he has a way of working things out.
