There are over 6,000 languages in the world, Why does Genesis say, “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech” (Gen 11:1)? And isn't that a good thing? Why did God confuse the languages?

When two men converse with each other they use each other’s name, but if one man speaks to a group he doesn’t use the names of the individuals in the group but addresses the group en masse. in Genesis chapter 1 God speaks to humanity, but God begins to speak to an individual man in Genesis chapter 2.
